Yacht Owner Guide: Handling Worst-Case Scenarios
Almost inevitably in yacht ownership, an incident, fire or accident is likely to happen. Understanding the high probability of a situation as such, a yacht owner should learn the steps to take before hand, as well as afterwards, to make the process go as smoothly as possible.
This month, two colleagues of Luxury Law Group, Danielle J. Butler, managing partner of the firm and president of the Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) and yacht litigation attorney Michael Karcher, provided guidance to members of the International Yacht Brokers Association (IYBA) on how yacht owners can mitigate or rectify disasters and emergencies.
In the informative column featured on the IYBA website, primary importance was placed on having yachts regularly inspected and surveyed, having a broker or maritime attorney review yacht insurance policies, knowing safety measures and who to call when disaster strikes, and utilizing the counsel of a maritime attorney before making any statements to yacht insurers.
