My practice focuses on general commercial and maritime litigation, as well as providing counsel to corporate clients on general and maritime companies as to their general business operations, commercial transactions, insurance matters, crew matters, chartering, employment and vessel regulatory and compliance matters on state and national levels. I am General Counsel for Lake Michigan Carferry Service and Pere Marquette Shipping and presently serve as outside counsel to several Fortune 500 companies assisting them with transactional and regulatory compliance matters. I am a member of the Florida Bar and am admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, District of Florida. My active professional memberships include the Fort Lauderdale Mariner’s Club, the Marine Industries Association of South Florida, the Maritime Law Association of the United States and the Florida Bar Admiralty Law Committee. With a recent three year appointment, I serve as a member on the National Transportation Research Board in Washington, DC. My undergraduate and Juris Doctorate degrees were earned at Samford University and Thomas M. Cooley School of Law, respectively.
In the professional realm, I have also been a model with Wilhelmina and Posche agencies, with particular emphasis in the commercial, editorial, web, runway, and television divisions. Combining my law experience, I have represented models, photographers, and agencies with issues involving contract formation, contract negotiation, contract disputes and violations and claims for image rights, amongst other industry issues. Working in this industry has been and is a wonderful opportunity for a creative outlet, and it has provided me with the opportunity to meet and work with photographers, stylists, and artists from around the world.
I am a native of Holland, Michigan, bilingual in Spanish, enjoy almost any water sport, never get seasick, and am third generation in a family business that owns several maritime entities.
